First and foremost...Merry Christmas and a very Joyous New Year. The year has certainly seemed to fly by, but how blessed we feel to be able to do what we do and have so much fun. From my family to yours...Enjoy your time together and we appreciate you!
The Livin The Dream Team radio show did a recent program on looking back on 2008. It shed a lot of light on how much has gone on over the past year. First of all this came to me as I was running. That all by itself is kind of funny. But I was thinking about how great the year has been. I know it has been a struggle, I hear your phone calls. I also get lots of calls from people who are thankful for having so many safe investments and not losing money. O.K. we have to stay on track….this is not the financial section but the Navin personal section. So, 2008 was a little rough in the economy, but it also has allowed so many other great things to take place. It helped me realize what really is important...Health, Family, Friends, Relationships, Exercise, Church, too many to list. In reviewing 2008 I am thankful for many areas in my life: Our first year in TN, meeting new people, getting involved in Triathlons, developing new friendships, fighting through the tough spots, hanging in there when life gets tough, helping friends/clients get through the economy, being a source for people to lean on and feel confident about there future, signing up for 1/2 marathons next year-started training already, and being blessed by such great clients!
The Navin family has developed a new mantra for 2009, be thankful for what you have, and don’t quit when it gets tough. I believe we as a people or economy have a tendency to find the easy way out, to get out of the pain quickly and quit too soon. Often quitting too soon on relationships, friends, business, and ideas. If you have a thought, idea, concept, or hobby you want to start...GO DO IT! Don’t quit on the idea, don’t let your friends or family talk you out of it, go for it! You have one chance, one life, there are no do-overs, Get After It. Feel like I could go on for a while, but not necessary. The Key is enjoy your life, enjoy your friends and family, and if you are not doing what you love, don’t quit on your dreams!

What Are You Thankful For In Your Life?
Is it November already? It seems like the year just started, and I am starting to sound like my parents….”Time goes by quickly”, “Savor the Moment”, “They will be grown before you know it.” Isn’t that the truth? This year has been no exception.
I heard that the older you get the faster time goes. I wasn’t sure why, but the wise man who had mentioned it to me explained: Each year comprises a smaller percentage of the total number of years you have lived. So a smaller percentage seems to go by quicker. When you were 15 (waiting with anticipation to get your drivers license) each year was about 8% of your life, making it a long time, as you age, each year is less. That is why time flies!
Well some folks (including me) have been hoping, praying, wishing that this year will come to an end quickly. Hopefully resolving some credit crisis, government bailouts, stock market falling, recession, you name it, the list can go on. My hope and wish is it is short, my gut feeling…it may be a couple of years. That being said, this short thread is not intended to be a pep rally for what has been a very bleak few months, but rather an additional opportunity to reflect on what is important, what we have to be thankful for, and where would like to see changes in our lives.
The Navin family has plenty to be thankful for: Our family continues to thrive in business- Gina and I are actually on the brink of launching another company called Get In The Groove, which is taking Gina’s expertise and systems and providing financial planners with necessary back office support and training. Make sure you ask her about the excitement. Tracy is discussing the possibility of starting a mail order Chocolate business. She has been experimenting with various recipes, ideas, and plans, it will be interesting to see what evolves. I have been asked to mentor other agents with sales strategies, marketing, and new ideas that can benefit all of our clients. So the opportunities for future growth are very exciting. If you ever want to share any ideas, I would love to be a sounding board, it would be a lot of fun and a great pleasure to hear what you have working. We are thankful for the relationships we have developed over the past few years. Learning that the key to life may be slowing down and enjoying the journey. Can you believe I thought it was a sprint race, and what do you know it is a marathon. A marathon in which you take in the beauty, the people, the joys and the pains, the small stories, and the many moments that occur. We are thankful for health, home, happiness, food, life, love, friends, relationships, Church, God, the opportunity to serve, and personal growth. (Somehow this month’s newsletter comments got a little serious). I think I am serious because these are serious times. Time to seriously look at what is important and make sure you are spending your time in the areas you want. Time to make sure you set goals that are in line with your priorities. Time to realize we are only hear a short while and we are going to be somewhere else for eternity. Time to make sure we have our priorities straight!
Seize the Day! Go Boldly towards your future! Thank someone you love! Appreciate the small stuff!
Now is the perfect time to reflect on what is important in your life, who do you appreciate? What good is going on, and how would you like next year to be different?
A wise young women gave me a quote the other day, I was trying to change everyone in the world, and she said, “Be The Change You Want To See”. Very insightful that Gina is, be the change you want to see. So with that, I vow to go to work on me, be patient, some changes may take a while! Good luck to you with your changes,
We appreciate you,
God Bless You!

Thoughts about Economy, Future, and Life
Well it certainly has been a crazy month! The markets have been a little “roller coaster” to say the least, the triathlon season is over and eating has become an old hobby, and the family is settling into the Fall Season.
In times like these I often think back to what truly is important….relationships! The markets have sent a scare through most of the country, including middle Tennessee. It is going to be this way for awhile. We will see some up/downs and probably a good rise after the election. That being said, I believe we are in for a real change in the future. Change back to our parents and grandparents days. We will keep a closer eye on our spending, the need for bigger and better will shift back to “hey, I am doing alright”, houses will become smaller, and family/friends/loved ones/ relationships will come full circle and be a focal point of our days.
This past weekend was proof of how good it can be. My brother (Matt) and his friend John came down for the weekend. We did more than our fair share of eating at some of the best Southern Cookin fine dining establishments, but we also spent some quality time on the front porch. Just sitting, talking, listening to music and relaxing. I believe we will discover over the next few months that we don’t need to spend a bunch of money to entertain ourselves; we can entertain ourselves without spending any money at all! Focus on what is really important…People. People’s feelings, their likes and dislikes, sporting teams, music, loves, faith and dreams. I just read a great quote “the richest people in the world are those who have accumulated a wealth of experiences by spending time helping another person”.
Life continues to be good in TN. I have completely fallen off the exercise, health driven life for the past month. Eating most everything I shouldn’t and not running, biking or swimming. Well, that is about to change, had enough of feeling like a sausage, and visiting with a dietician and fitness coach on Wednesday. The coach was in my triathlon swimming class, has lost 100lbs and done numerous Iron Man competitions. I will be willing to bet my diet has to change! The family is doing well too. Kailey attended her first homecoming dance this year. She went with a group as “just friends”. I know they were, but still looked and felt like dating to me. Do I seem like an overprotective father? Yea, I know! Julia is good too, she sang last week at a festival in downtown Leiper’s Fork, she had a great gift, hope she realizes it and pursues the gift! Tracy is good, and really thankful she has passed some of the hard parts of PTO. She has done a great job in rallying the troupes and is thankful for the opportunity!
I wish you all the best as Fall approaches. Take a few moments out just for you, do some front porch sittin, and be thankful for all you have. We are thankful for you and appreciate all of you!

So How do WE take ACTION?
I have been thinking a lot lately about the economy and the markets. People will come up to me and ask "Is your phone ringing off the hook"? "Are your clients extremely worried about the market"? My response to both is NO.
When you have a strategy and you stick to your plan, there isn't a great deal of need to overreact. If you don't have a plan or strategy, then there could be some issues. This doesn't mean that folks are content with the way the economy, government, or future looks and are walking blindly. There is time to take action and make changes to your plans...I AGREE. My Question (and somewhat answer) today is
WHAT CAUSES PEOPLE TO NOT TAKE ANY ACTION ON THEIR FUTURE?
We are in the middle of a pretty scary time, the signs are all around us. WE have the government stepping in on a $700 billion bailout, AIG, WAMU, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae needing assistance, the rest of the world slipping as well, and we are not sure where to turn. Is fear that overriding?
It is my belief that we are in the middle of the greatest economic opportunity ever. The chances we will have to better our lives is more evident in down economies than is rising ones. We seek out new ways to invest money, new ways to make money, turn to our friends and family for support, trust in support groups, want to be involved in our communities, and look to the Higher Power, God or Yahweh (whatever your belief)to carry us through. WE need those support groups and definitely need our Higher Power, but don't use that as a crutch to make yourself feel better. Use the support as a resource to believe in yourself and take action!!
Now is the time to move forward
Now is the time to develop new financial and business muscles
Now is the time to realize YOU will succeed much faster with support
Now is the time to lean into your faith
I am excited about the future and the times that are upon us. I look forward to helping anyway I can, please share your thoughts and let others know how you can help. We feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to be of service, have the clients we do, and appreciate each and everyone of you!

Sept. 23, 2008- How to Deal With Changing Environments
WOW.....What a week so far. It has been a little crazy to say the least.
The Government now owns a majority stake in AIG, the lending giants of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, and is now discussing a way to save the financial markets. Does anyone else think this is a litte crazy? I certainly do. What is the government doing getting involved in financial markets? Where does it end? Why aren't they helping you and me...the small guys?
Well at the sake of not venting too much, I want to share a few thoughts with you:
1. If you are wondering what is going to happen in the future you are not alone. Now is the time to make sure your planning is set for tax efficiency for sure. THE GOOD NEWS is we have only had 2 phone calls. My clients are diversified with the bulk of their money in safe investments. Safe investments will probably be the way to go in the near future.
2. Tax efficiency is going to be one key component going forward. The government is greatly underfunded as it is, now they are going to bail out banks. Hasn't this happened once before? (savings and loan). They are proposing similiar scenarios for our current environment. The impact on the average tax payer is projected to be somewhere around $20,000.
3. There will be great opportunities in the future. Yes, it sounds bleak, but there are more millionaires made in a down market that a good economy. One of which is owning your own business. One place to seek out your own business with a small start up costs is a direct selling company. One I like is Mona Vie.

THE QUESTION: How long do you think the economy is going to struggle??
